In 1972, Ms. Rebecca Pan independently produced Hong Kong’s first Chinese musical, “Pai Niang Niang” adapting the classic tale of “The Legend of the White Snake” into a Broadway-style production that harmoniously combined traditional Chinese music with modern Western theatrical aesthetics. In 2023, miraculously recovered fragments of this lost masterpiece have been lovingly assembled by director Wong Tsui-wah into a compelling documentary. Through her lens, audiences will be transported to the premiere in 1972, witnessing firsthand the innovative genius of Ms. Rebecca Pan, the musical brilliance of Joseph Koo, and the lyrical artistry of James Wong – a testament to the unwavering dedication of a generation of artists.
